On Friday 8th March, Professor Alice Roberts (University of Birmingham) visited Chigwell School to deliver an engaging talk about evolution, in part of our celebration of International Women's Day, World Book Week and British Science Week. Our Sport & Wellness Centre hosted Chigwell pupils from Years 7-13 along with students from five schools including West Hatch, Braeside and Oaks Park.

"A year ago we were thinking about how we could celebrate World Book Day, International Women’s Day and British Science Week through inviting one person to address the school and thought Professor Roberts fitted the bill perfectly. A year on, we were delighted with her fascinating talk on the evolutionary history of humans and some of the advances being made in the science of embryology. Her passion for her subject, wide-ranging knowledge and clear communication of ideas makes her an inspiring role model for our pupils and has set the bar very high for future speakers." - Jo Roberts, Swallow Library Librarian

After the talk, Professor Roberts hosted a book signing and answered individual questions from students. We feel very grateful to have welcomed Professor Roberts to Chigwell School for such an interesting and relevant discussion.
