Payment of Fees
Please note that the School will not accept cash payments of fees (see clause 4.15 of the Terms and Conditions). Instructions for payment will be sent with the fee bills. Fees must be paid on or before the first day of each term.
Music Lessons
Individual music lessons are available on a wide variety of instruments, delivered by visiting music teachers, who are self-employed and issue their own fees, terms and conditions. More information is available from the Director of Music.
Extras
Examination fees, School bus (Zeelo), breakfast club, after school club, homework club, and lost or damaged books charges will be added to bills, and charges for extras will be added to boarders’ fee accounts where necessary. Pupils in Years 3 and above may buy breakfast.
Fees are inclusive of all tuition, meals (lunch and afternoon tea), textbooks, games, societies, and most clubs.
Fees must be paid on or before the first day of each term.
Changes
The School reserves the right to alter the fees and charges at any time; however, they are usually adjusted once a year in September. Please see the School’s Terms and Conditions for further information about the payment of fees and extras.
Bursaries
Since its foundation in 1629, the School has always given means-tested financial support to a number of pupils who we know will thrive at Chigwell but whose families cannot afford full fees. This support is known as a bursary, which may be awarded in the form of a discount of up to 100% of tuition fees, depending on the financial circumstances of applicants. Chigwell encourages applications from pupils who, without a bursary, would not be able to access an education of the highest quality, but who would thrive with the academic, extra-curricular, and developmental opportunities offered here. The School offers bursaries in the belief that a first-class education in the broadest sense can change the lives of individuals, whilst they are at school and for their future.
At Chigwell, we offer means-tested bursaries at entry to Year 7 (11+), Year 9 (13+) and Year 12 (16+) for those pupils who meet our entrance requirements.
How to Apply
Parents wishing to apply for a bursary must complete an initial income assessment form, which helps determine the household’s financial circumstances in line with our bursary policy. Please indicate your interest by ticking the relevant box on the online registration form, and we will send you the assessment form.
Once the initial income assessment form is reviewed in line with our bursary policy, you will be notified of the outcome.
Families who meet our bursary eligibility criteria will be provided with a link to our external partner, Bursary Assessment Associates (BAA), who will complete the final assessment and offer their recommendations.
The application must be completed by both parents or all those with parental rights and responsibilities. Assessments can only be made where applications are complete.
Your personal information will remain strictly confidential and will not affect the outcome of your child’s academic assessments or offer of a place. All candidates are required to take the entrance assessment to ensure they meet our entry criteria and that they will be able to cope with the rigour of our curriculum.
Information for parents | Bursary Assessment Associates
During your meeting, the BAA representative will review your completed financial assessment form and supporting documents with you. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and clarify any information that may be unclear or require further explanation. They will then make a recommendation to us regarding your eligibility for a bursary award.
If your child is successful in our entrance process, we, the school, will make a final decision on the amount of the bursary award based on BAA’s recommendation. The number of candidates we have applying, and the amount of available funding. When we write to you with an offer of a place, we will confirm the percentage of the bursary.
Applications received after the published dates below, or incomplete applications, may not be considered and could result in no award being made.
