New Head of Mathematics

Laura Compton grew up in Portsmouth and spent time in Suffolk at The Royal Hospital School as a boarder. She then went on to study Mathematics at the University of Warwick before returning to Portsmouth to complete her PGCE and NQT year in the maintained sector. She then went back to The Royal Hospital School to teach maths and live in the boarding house as an Assistant Housemistress. Whilst there she very much enjoyed enhancing the super-curriculum by running maths trips and clubs to widen participation in mathematics outside the classroom and helped develop the use of devices and technology in the classroom. In 2020 Laura moved to St Edward's School in Oxford where she continued to live in a boarding house as Assistant Housemistress, became Second in the maths department, and enjoyed spending more time outside coaching hockey and netball.

Alongside her teaching, she works for Pearson as Assistant Principal Examiner which provides her with insight into external exams, helping her to prepare students more effectively.

Laura said: " I am delighted to start at Chigwell and look forward to encouraging students to make the most out of the many opportunities on offer both within the maths department and in the wider school."
