Chigwell School Music Festival 2019

More than 100 children from local Essex schools spent an entire day at Chigwell School for this year’s Prep and Primary Music Festival for children 7-11.  They took part in a variety of workshops, from music technology, song-writing, to introductory string experiences. Parallel to this, children had a day of orchestral coaching, culminating in a late afternoon celebratory concert. Director of Music, Howard Ebden remarked how harmoniously the day’s events blended together.  It presented the children a chance to try out a new instrument, and it gave our own Music Scholars the opportunity to introduce and encourage their initial attempts. Sessions were led by our music professionals including former students, who came back to share their expertise. James Botcher, choral lay clerk at York Minster, led percussion coaching and displayed his unique beat-boxing talents. Rhea Gupta, Clare College Cambridge Choral Scholar, inspired enthusiastic children to compose original music. At the end of the concert, the children formed one big choir to sing Julian Lennon’s song, a plea to save the planet, ‘Saltwater’ and ‘This is the Greatest Show’ from ‘The Greatest Showman.’
