Chigwell School’s music department, headed up by Mr Howard Ebden, Director of Music, launched a YouTube channel last year to continue to share pupils’ talents with their families and the wider Chigwell community during the pandemic.

By livestreaming events that would normally have been hosted in School, Mr Ebden and pupils have been able to bring the joy of music to an even wider audience – making music even more accessible to all.

Innovative Approach

From Young Musician of the Year, to recitals and online music tutorials, the music department at Chigwell has taken an innovative approach to ensure that lessons continue remotely and that performances are shared via the power of YouTube.

More than 6k views

With total views currently at 6,100, the Chigwell School music playlist has engaged not only current parents but also alumni (Old Chigwellians) and the wider community - both in the UK and internationally. So much so, that the playlist, hosted on the School's main YouTube channel, has quintupled the audience size for events and there have been highs of 703 views for pupil Mily's Mozart recital.

As both staff and pupils have become more confident with the new set-up, the productions have gone from strength to strength with each recital and pupils have adapted incredibly well to performing in front of cameras instead of a real-life audience.

Well done to all the performers. I have to say this livestream was incredibly well recorded and filmed.

Current Parent

Talented pupils have also sent in their own videos from home – taking part in recitals during times when the School has been teaching remotely or just simply sharing their passion for playing music to uplift spirts - such as renditions from Noah (pictured above) of 'Somebody to Love' and Jack (pictured below) of 'Follow the Star' and 'We'll Meet Again'.
