Earlier this week, Chigwell School was delighted to welcome Tansy the pony from the Chigwell Riding Trust as we hosted our first ever Saint Martin’s Lantern Parade, thoughtfully organised by the German Department.
Saint Martin’s Day is celebrated across Germany each November with lantern processions that bring communities together in a spirit of light and generosity. To recreate this tradition, our Year 7 and 8 German pupils designed and made their own lanterns and learnt two traditional German songs as part of their studies.
Our parade began with Theo leading on the trumpet, followed by Saint Martin on his horse. The gentle glow of the lanterns created a wonderful atmosphere, offering a glimpse into a cherished German custom and bringing a sense of warmth and hope as we step into the winter months.
