Chigwell School enjoyed another successful Cricket Week, welcoming a mix of familiar faces and new opponents across three competitive fixtures that showcased the spirit, tradition and high standard of cricket at the school.
The week began with the annual fixture against the Old Chigwellians. It was a pleasure to welcome back former pupils from across different year groups to play once again on the ground where they created so many memories during their time at Chigwell. Played in excellent spirit, the match proved to be a fantastic occasion, with the Chigwell 1st XI producing a strong performance to secure victory over the Old Chigwellians.
The second fixture saw Chigwell host St Paul's School for the first time during Cricket Week. Both sides played some excellent cricket in a closely contested match, demonstrating skill and sportsmanship throughout. Despite a determined performance from the Chigwell 1st XI, St Paul's edged a narrow victory in an entertaining encounter.
The week concluded with the prestigious annual fixture against the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Chigwell's bowlers made an outstanding start, reducing the visitors to 138 for 8 before lunch thanks to a disciplined and determined bowling display. However, the MCC showed their experience, recovering impressively to finish on 210 for 8.
In reply, the Chigwell 1st XI showed plenty of promise but were unable to recover after losing early wickets. The MCC bowled with great discipline throughout the innings to secure victory in the final match of the week.
A standout individual performance came from U14 pupil Nikhil, who was named Player of the Match after an exceptional spell of bowling, claiming 3 wickets for 46 runs from his 10 overs. Nikhil was presented with the MCC Spirit of Cricket Award by MCC Captain Joe Craddock in recognition of his outstanding contribution.
