The Under 13 football team, which included six Year 7s, won the regional IAPS football tournament which was held at Chigwell. The event involved 14 teams who played in two separate groups of 7. Each team played one another with the top 4 from each group progressing to the main event. Chigwell topped group A with 13 points from the maximum of 18. The quarter-final was a close affair which was settled by penalties. Chigwell triumphed 3-2. A 1-0 win in the semi-final set up a final against Bishops Stortford College. Both teams scored a goal each, which meant that it had to be settled with a penalty shoot-out. Once again Chigwell were victorious and progress to the national finals as regional champions.
Head of Boys’ Games, Mr Kevin Farrant, commented that throughout the boys were magnificent and a credit to themselves and the School.
Further footballing success was achieved by the Under 11 side in their IAPS tournament, where they finished third and will also be heading to the national finals. Again hosted at Chigwell, this event involved 16 teams who played in two groups. Chigwell started slowly, but grew in strength and confidence as the tournament progressed. Unfortunately, the boys lost on penalties in the semi-final but rallied to win the 3rd/ 4th playoff match comfortably.
Head of Football, Mr Andy Bruce, remarked that he was very proud of the whole team for reaching the national finals and for the manner in which they conducted themselves.
