What type of school is Chigwell?

Chigwell is an all through co-educational school, starting at Reception all the way through to Sixth Form, ages 4 – 18.

Pre Prep: Reception – Year 2

Prep: Year 3 – Year 6

Lower School: Year 7 – Year 8

Senior School: Year 9 – Year 11

Sixth Form: Year 12 – Year 13

When are we able to visit the school?

We have several Open Events in the calendar, please visit our Open Days and Tours page for more information and to book places. However, we would be delighted to welcome you to our school for a daytime tour.

When can I register my child for a place at the school?

We welcome early registrations for all our entry points, 4+, 7+, 11+, 13+ and 16+.

Do you offer boarding places?

Yes, although we are primarily a day school, we also offer boarding places at Sixth Form, (Years 12 and 13), to international students.

How does the admissions process work?

All candidates will sit an entrance exam/assessment along with an interview and reference provided by the current school. Further information can be found here.

Do you have transport facilities?

Transport is provided by our bus company Kura, more details and bus routes can be found here.

Chigwell School also offer a free shuttle service to/from Buckhurst Hill Station.

Where can I find out more about the school uniform?

Information about the uniform is sent to families during the Trinity term before new children join the school in September.

What after school clubs are on offer?

We have a plethora of after school clubs across all years. Please find below examples of the clubs that may be on offer. The clubs are rotated on a termly basis.

Do you offer before and after school care?

Before school care is available from 7.30am in the Prep School and 7.45am in the Pre-Prep.

After school care is available until 5.30pm in the Pre Prep and until 6pm in the Prep School.

How many pupils do you have in a class?

We endeavour to keep our class sizes small and it varies per year group. On average class sizes are kept between 20 – 22.

What learning support do you offer to the pupils?

We have a well-resourced Learning Support team, that work in a variety of classes to help the pupils with their work. Our specialist staff give one to one targeted support to those that need it.

What are the benefits of a through school?

We understand the educational needs of each child as they develop through the school. This allows smooth and supported progression from one stage to the next. All pupils have access to specialist teachers in a range of subjects.

The sense of community is particularly strong, where everyone is encouraged to look after one another.

Are parents involved in the life of the school?

We have a very supportive and active parent association that organise regular events for both pupils and families. More information about the parents' association can be found below.

What are the school fees each year and are there any additional costs?

Some items are charged separately, eg. Exam fees, individual music lessons etc.

What is the difference between a scholarship and a bursary?

At Chigwell School scholarships are awarded on merit to pupils who can demonstrate outstanding achievement and potential.

Bursaries are offered to make it possible for outstanding candidates whose parents could not otherwise afford the fees, to benefit from all that Chigwell School has to offer. Bursaries are based on means-testing household income and assets. More information can be found here.
