The Eluned Hodgkins Medical Centre

Our on-site Medical Centre caters for both physical and mental health needs.

The Centre is staffed by qualified nurses from 8.00am - 5.00pm, as well as a visiting counsellor. Counselling appointments are integrated with our safeguarding programme. Parents will always be contacted immediately if a child needs to be taken home or requires further treatment.

Children with long term conditions such as severe allergies, diabetes and asthma, will be supported with an agreed Health Plan which is established between parents and guardians and the School.

You may contact the Medical Centre to discuss any health related matters regarding your child, though for day pupils it is not a substitute for your GP who should be your first point of contact if you have any concerns about your child’s health.

Pre Prep Medical Facilities

In the Pre Prep, pupils’ medical or first aid needs are looked after by staff, all of whom hold current Pediatric First Aid Certificates.

The Pre Prep has a dedicated and well-resourced First Aid room. However, staff at the Medical Centre are available for advice and will attend the Pre Prep in emergency situations. Parents of EYFS children (Reception Class) are notified in writing on the day of any first aid given to their child.

Other Medical Facilities

Boarding Students

There are nurses on call outside of school hours for boarding students, who are also registered with the School’s doctor when they join the School.

First Aiders

In addition to our on-site nurses, a number of staff are first aid trained and mental health first aiders.

About Eluned Hodgkins

In front of the Medical Centre is a memorial garden created by Sarah Inch for Chigwell nurse, Eluned Hodgkins, who cared for countless students during her 25 years at the School.

"Wise and always good spirited" - one of many tributes paid to her when she left us in 2012.
