Religious Studies is a popular and thriving subject at Chigwell School with many students opting to study the subject at GCSE and A level. The department is committed to representing the many different cultures in the School and demands students adopt an academic and analytical approach to studying the world faiths, religious beliefs, philosophy and ethics from whatever religious or cultural standpoint they themselves come from.

RS allows students the opportunity to critically explore intellectually invigorating areas that mirror their own lives. The subject at all levels demands that pupils personally interact with the subject material and as a result develop valuable philosophical and analytical skills that will be advantageous for the future life.
When students enter the Senior School they study the world faiths with particular focus on the Judeo-Christian-Islamic tradition in Year 7 and the Eastern religions in Year 8. Students are introduced to the study of philosophy and ethical issues in Years 8 and 9 and will study religious belief in the context of politics, culture, history and scientific thought.
We follow the AQA GCSE full course World and Philosophical Perspectives on Religious Issues which allows students to sit the GCSE in a modular format with the first unit taken at the end of Year 10 and the second unit sat at the end of Year 11. The course centres around the study of ethical issues within the context of Christianity, Islam and secular thought as well as a detailed examination of issues in the philosophy of religion.
Religious Studies at both AS and A2 level is an exciting option, giving all those who study it a deeper and more profound sense of the world they live in. The course focuses on the study of religion and science, ethics and religion and broader topics in the philosophy of religion.
