| The Physical Education programme at Chigwell aims to ensure that all children receive a broad and balanced curriculum, which is progressive, stimulating and challenging.
In order to achieve its purpose the objectives of the programme are:
- Develop physical competence and promote physical development, hence to realise the potential of each child.
- To bring about enjoyment through physical skills, thereby fostering a positive attitude towards physical education and combining this with a desire to learn.
- Through experiences to teach pupils the value of participating while at school and throughout life.
- Develop an appreciation of skilful performances.
- Develop problem solving skills.
- Establishment of self-esteem through the development of physical confidence.
- Development of inter-personal skills.
- Making decisions and selecting, refining, judging and adapting movements.
- Encouraged to develop personal qualities of commitment, fairness and enthusiasm
There has been a traditional over emphasis on team games in Preparatory and Independent Senior Schools, and this can lead to an imbalance in overall physical development. Despite the importance of games, at Chigwell School every attempt is made to provide major components of a balanced programme.

PE at A Level was introduced in 2006 with us following the Edexcel Specification, and has been a popular subject with our students. The whole AS and A2 course is practically based. Pupils will enhance their performance by being involved in a range of practical activities. They will also develop their understanding of a sporting activity by doing an analysis of one activity and a project researching the provision of that activity. Finally, they will be able to relate what they have learnt, by being assessed in two roles from a wide range of team games, racket sports or individual pursuits.
