ICT

The school is well equipped with ICT resources and has three specialist ICT rooms with additional computer clusters in other subject areas – Music and Art have benefited from new computers during 2008. In addition to the computers, there are many peripheral devices available for pupil and staff use. These include scanners, digital cameras and DV camcorders. Most of the classrooms have LCD projectors to which teachers can connect their laptop computers in order to help enhance their teaching through interactive demonstrations or by live Internet research via the school’s wireless network. In addition to these projectors, we have also started to introduce interactive whiteboard technology.

The school has a wide range of industry standard software packages including site licenses for Microsoft Office, Macromedia Studio and the FileMaker database tools. Individual subjects have licenses for the specialist software that they require, which includes the Adobe Photoshop Suite for Art; Sibelius and Cubase VST software for Music and the popular ProDESKTOP in Design and Technology.

Pupils at both Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 receive one lesson of Information and Communications Technology each week. They also have the opportunity to use ICT in their other subjects. This single lesson aims to develop a high degree of confidence and practical capability in support of students’ use of ICT in their other subjects and in their future. The lessons are based upon the syllabus of the European Computer Driving License, but are supplemented by in-house modules that cover additional specialist software.

In the Sixth Form, students have the opportunity to study Computing at AS and A level. This course allows students to develop their practical skills and their specialist knowledge to a far greater depth.
