Can I come and see the School?
Yes of course, we have our main Open Day at the end of September this year with additional separate 7+ and 8+ and then 11+ and 13+ mornings.
You are also welcome to make an appointment to see around the School on a working day and meet pupils and staff in the classrooms. Please contact Mrs Janet Long to make an appointment.
What does ‘register’ mean?
It means you have completed and returned the Registration Form with all your relevant details and paid the non-refundable Registration Fee of £50.
When should I register?
Most parents register their child before the end of October, in order to receive details of the exam day, together with specimen English and Maths papers, at that time. The closing date for 7+ - 11+ entrance is Friday 14th December 2012.
How does the admissions process work?
At 7+ all candidates will be invited for interview and classroom assessment in the November before the entrance exam in January. 8+ candidates will sit the entrance exam in January and may then be called for interview. A confidential report form will be sent to all parents which they should pass to their child's current school.
At 11+ we interview all candidates in November, before the exam in January
Our aim is to get to know all the children before the exams are taken so that we can base our decision on the entrance exam results, interview and report from current school.
What exam papers will my child sit?
At 7+ and 8+ candidates sit English, arithmetic and non-verbal reasoning.
At 11+ candidates sit English, maths and verbal-reasoning.
At 13+ candidates sit English, maths, a modern foreign language (plus Science for scholarship candidates).
Do you have scholarships and bursaries?
We offer scholarships and bursaries at the age of 11 upwards. Scholarship are awarded on academic merit ie performance in the exam, interview and school report and candidates are called in on one of two afternoons to undertake an arts and science based activity, together with 3 short formal interviews. Bursaries are awarded on financial need, together with the performance of the candidate in the entrance procedure. Full details can be obtained from the Admissions Registrar.
Do you have any special needs support?
We have a dedicated Special Educational Needs teacher, who is happy to see prospective parents before the examination date to discuss individual requirements. Please supply a copy of the latest Educational Psychologist Report, at the time of registration, so that we can consider your child for extra time in the examination.
What is your policy on bullying?
Bullying is not tolerated in any form. We have an Anti-Bullying Policy which can be found on the website. Any allegation of bullying is taken very seriously.
What are your class sizes?
We aim to keep class sizes small. Year 3 currently has 36 children split into 2 classes and Year 7 has 86 children split into 4 classes.
Linking birthday to year of entry
This table will help you decide which of our year groups is the correct one for your child.
1. Start by deciding which academic year you would like your child to enter by looking at the yellow boxes.
2. Read across until you find the period (1st September to 31st August) that includes your child’s birthday.
3. Read up the table to find the year group that is appropriate. The main entry ages of 7+, 8+, 11+, 13+ and 16+ are highlighted.
