​​Entry at 4+ (September 2016)

For children born between 1st September 2011 and 31st August 2012.

The completed Registration form, together with the Registration fee, should be sent to the Admissions Registrar.


The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Thursday 15th October 2015.  Applications received after this time will not be considered.

The assessment sessions take place over a three week period beginning on Monday 2nd November 2015.  Children and their parents will be allocated a time slot according to their date of birth during one of the weeks.  Children attend and participate in the assessment as part of a group.  Parents are invited to wait for their child.

The 4+ assessment consists of pupil participation in a range of activities centred on the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.  Briefly, these activities comprise of number and literacy games, physical games, playing with other children, listening and responding to a story and joining in with singing/rhymes.  The assessment takes approximately 1 1/2 hours, is undertaken in the library and is carefully designed to ensure children feel happy and settled

 

Entry at 7+ (September 2016)

 For children born between 1st September 2008 and 31st August 2009.

The completed Registration form, together with the Registration fee, should be sent to the Admissions Registrar.
 
We would recommend that all registration forms are submitted by the end of October, as details of the exam, interview and classroom experience dates and specimen papers are sent out at this time.

Closing date for applications - 12 noon on Tuesday 1st December 2015.
7+ interviews will be held in the week beginning 2nd November and again in the week beginning 23rd November.
7+ Classroom experience will be held on Saturday 14th November
Examination held on Saturday 17th January 2015.

All candidates undertake an interview, take part in a classroom experience and sit the entrance examination. A confidential report form will be sent to you to pass to your child's current school.
 
The interview takes place in two stages – parents will have the opportunity to meet with either the Head or Deputy Head of the Junior School and ask questions about life at Chigwell School and also tell us something about their child. Candidates are then interviewed separately. The whole process takes 30 minutes.
The classroom session is taken by our Year 3 form tutors and provides an informal opportunity for us to assess your child and for them to become familiar with the school.
The examination comprises papers in English, Arithmetic and Non-verbal reasoning. Details of the exam and specimen papers in English and Arithmetic will be sent out at the end of October. We do not send out further past papers or specimen papers for the Non-verbal reasoning paper.
 
Results of the 7+ entrance examination will be posted on Thursday 18th February 2016.
 
Acceptances must be received by 2.00 pm on Thursday 4th March 2016.
 
 
 
Entry at 11+ (September 2016)
For children born between 1st September 2004 and 31st August 2005.
 
The completed Registration form, together with the Registration fee, should be sent to the Admissions Registrar.
 
We would recommend that all registration forms are submitted by the end of October as details of the entrance exam, interview date and specimen papers at this time are sent out at this time.

Closing date for applications - 12 noon on Tuesday 1st December 2015.
 
Interviews will be held in the week beginning Monday 12th October and again in the week beginning Monday 9th November 2015.  We will timetable a few interviews on the 7th and 8th January and the week after beginning Monday 11th January 2016 but there will be limited availability and times.

The examination process:

The examination comprises papers in English, mathematics and Verbal reasoning. Details of the exam and specimen papers in English and maths will be sent out at the end of October. We do not send out further past papers or specimen papers for the Verbal reasoning paper.

The School also sends parents a Confidential Report Form to pass on to their child's current school.

If your child performs especially well in the examination he/she may be called for a Scholarship interview and assessment on either Wednesday 3rd or Thursday 4th February 2016. Candidates take part in Arts and Science based activities in small groups and also have individual interviews in English, Mathematics and a general interview with senior members of staff.
Music Scholarship auditions are held on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th January 2016. Candidates at the age of eleven should have at least Associated Board Grade 4 in the first instrument offered and Grade 2 in the second instrument or singing.

Results will be posted on Thursday 18th February 2016.

Acceptances must be received by 2.00 pm on the 4th March 2016.
 
 
 
Entry at 13+ (September 2016) - held only if there is a place available.

For children born between 1st September 2002 and 31st August 2003.

The completed Registration form, together with the Registration fee, should be sent to the Admissions Registrar.

Closing date for applications - 12 noon on Friday 29th January 2016.

Both fee paying and Scholarship places are available. Candidates for a fee paying place sit papers in English, Mathematics and a Modern Foreign Language of their choice. Scholarship and/or Bursary candidates sit an additional paper in Science.
 
Examination held on Thursday 25th February 2016.

Details of the examination, together with specimen papers, are sent out at the end of January to registered candidates.

Most candidates will be interviewed after the entrance exam, depending upon the examination results, and details of this will be sent to you nearer the date.

A confidential report will be requested from the candidate’s present school and this forms an important part of the decision process.

Results will be posted on the 10th March 2016.

 
 
VI Form Entry (September 2016)
 
For children born between 1st September 1999 and 31st August 2000
 
The completed Registration form, together with the Registration fee, should be sent to the Admissions Registrar.
The closing date for fee paying and scholarship applications is 12 noon on Tuesday 10th November 2015.  Applications received after this time are very welcome but will only be considered for fee paying places.

Entrance Exams for ALL candidates on Saturday 28th November 2015.  Candidates will sit papers in two of their chosen AS level subjects.

Interviews on Saturday 5th December 2015, together with Art/Music/Drama auditions.
 
Results will be posted on Monday 14th December 2015.
Acceptances must be received by Friday 8th January 2016.
 
All Sixth Form candidates will take two entrance examinations chosen by them from their proposed four AS level subjects.  Sixth Form places will be awarded on the basis of these tests, interviews and a current school report.
 
Candidates are expected to achieve at least an A grade in their chosen AS level subjects, and should have in total at least six GCSE passes at grade A or above.
 
When completing the registration form the following information should be recorded:
• The Examination Boards of the GCSE examinations.
• Candidates applying for Biology, Physics or Chemistry should supply details of
   the Board and indicate whether they will sit for dual award Science GCSE or for
   separate subjects.
• Candidates applying for History should indicate which period they are studying for
   GCSE.
• Candidates applying for Mathematics must be studying the higher tier of GCSE
   Mathematics.
• Candidates applying for Religious Studies should indicate which specification they
   are following.
• Candidates applying for a Music Scholarship should be at least grade 8 in their first instrument and grade 6 in their    
   second.
 
All Sixth Form places are awarded on the basis of the entrance examinations and interviews, together with the current school report. Candidates are asked to bring in samples of their academic work to their interviews.

We offer Academic, Music, Art and Drama Scholarships in the Sixth Form.  Candidates may apply for a combination of Academic/Drama, Academic/Art or Academic/Music but cannot combine Drama, Art or Music. 
 
Candidates may also apply for a Bursary (means tested) and one of the scholarship categories.
