​​Entry at 4+ (September 2015)

For children born between 1st September 2010 and 31st August 2011.

The completed Registration form, together with the Registration fee, should be sent to the Admissions Registrar.


The closing date for applications is Friday 17th October 2014.  Applications received after this time will not be considered.

The assessment sessions take place over a three week period beginning on Monday 10th November 2014.  Children and their parents will be allocated a time slot according to their date of birth during one of the weeks.  Children attend and participate in the assessment as part of a group.  Parents are invited to wait for their child.

The 4+ assessment consists of pupil participation in a range of activities centred on the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.  Briefly, these activities comprise of number and literacy games, physical games, playing with other children, listening and responding to a story and joining in with singing/rhymes.  The assessment takes approximately 1 1/2 hours, is undertaken in the library and is carefully designed to ensure children feel happy and settled.


We will request a report/reference from your child's current Nursery/School (if applicable). 

 

Entry at 7+ (September 2015)

 For children born between 1st September 2007 and 31st August 2008.

The completed Registration form, together with the Registration fee, should be sent to the Admissions Registrar.
 
We would recommend that all registration forms are received by the end of October, as we send out details of the exam, interview and classroom experience dates and specimen papers at this time.

Closing date for applications - Monday 1st December 2014
7+ interviews will be held in the week beginning 3rd November and again in the week beginning 24th November.
7+ Classroom experience will be held on Saturday 15th November
Examination held on Saturday 17th January 2015.

All candidates undertake an interview, take part in a classroom experience and sit the entrance examination. A confidential report form will be sent to you to pass to your child's current school.
 
The interview takes place in two stages – parents will have the opportunity to meet with either the Head or Deputy Head of the Junior School and ask questions about life at Chigwell School and also tell us something about their child. Candidates are then interviewed separately. The whole process takes 30 minutes.
The classroom session is taken by our Year 3 form tutors and provides an informal opportunity for us to assess your child and for them to become familiar with the school.
The examination comprises papers in English, Arithmetic and Non-verbal reasoning. Details of the exam and specimen papers in English and Arithmetic will be sent out at the end of October. We do not send out further past papers or specimen papers for the Non-verbal reasoning paper.
 
Results of the 7+ entrance examination will be posted on Friday 13th February 2015.
 
Acceptances must be received by 2.00 pm on Thursday 5th March 2015.
 
 
 
Entry at 11+ (September 2015)
For children born between 1st September 2003 and 31st August 2004.
 
The completed Registration form, together with the Registration fee, should be sent to the Admissions Registrar.
 
We would recommend that all registration forms are returned by the end of October as we send out details of the entrance exam, interview date and specimen papers at this time.

Closing date for applications - Monday 1st December 2014.
 
Interviews will be held in the week beginning Monday 10th November 2014 and again on the 8th, 9th January and the week after beginning Monday 12th January 2015

The examination process:

The examination comprises papers in English, Mathematics and Verbal reasoning. Details of the exam and specimen papers in English and Arithmetic will be sent out at the end of October. We do not send out further past papers or specimen papers for the Verbal reasoning paper.

We also send you a Confidential Report Form to pass on to your child's current school.

If your child performs especially well in the examination he/she may be called for a Scholarship interview and assessment on either Wednesday 4th or Thursday 5th February 2015. Candidates take part in Arts and Science based activities in small groups and also have individual interviews in English, Mathematics and a general interview with senior members of staff.
Music Scholarship auditions are held on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th January 2015. Candidates at the age of eleven should have at least Associated Board Grade 4 in the first instrument offered and Grade 2 in the second instrument or singing.

Results will be posted on Thursday 19th February 2015.

Acceptances must be received by 2.00 pm on Thursday 5th March.
 
 
 
Entry at 13+ (September 2015) - held only if there is a place available.

For children born between 1st September 2001 and 31st August 2002.

The completed Registration form, together with the Registration fee, should be sent to the Admissions Registrar.

Closing date for applications - Friday 30th January 2015.

Both fee paying and Scholarship places are available. Candidates for a fee paying place sit papers in English, Mathematics and a Modern Foreign Language of their choice. Scholarship candidates sit an additional paper in Science.
 
Examination held on Thursday 26th February 2015.

Details of the examination, together with specimen papers, are sent out in January to registered candidates.

Most candidates will be interviewed after the entrance exam, depending upon the examination results, and details of this will be sent to you nearer the date.

A confidential report will be requested from the candidate’s present school and this forms an important part of the decision process.

Results will be posted on the 9th March 2015.

 
 
VI Form Entry (September 2015)
 
For children born between 1st September 1998 and 31st August 1999
 
The completed Registration form, together with the Registration fee, should be sent to the Admissions Registrar.
The closing date for scholarship applications is Thursday 13th November 2014.  Applications received after this time are very welcome but will only be considered for fee paying places.

Interviews on Saturday 22nd November 2014.

Scholarship examinations on Saturday 29th November 2014.
 
Results will be posted on Tuesday 2nd December 2014.
Acceptances must be received by Friday 9th January 2015.
When completing the registration form the following information should please be recorded:
• The Examination Boards of the GCSE examinations.
• Candidates applying for Biology, Physics or Chemistry should supply details of
the Board and indicate whether they will sit for dual award Science GCSE or for
separate subjects.
• Candidates applying for History should indicate which period they are studying for
GCSE.
• Candidates applying for Mathematics must be studying the higher tier of GCSE
Mathematics.
• Candidates applying for Religious Studies should indicate which specification they
are following.
All Sixth Form places are awarded on the basis of the interviews, together with the current school report. Candidates are asked to bring in samples of their academic work to their first, and possibly may be asked to sit a paper at their second interview.

Candidates are expected to gain A* or A grades in their chosen AS level subjects, and should have in total at least six GCSE passes at grade B or above.

We offer Academic, Music, Art and Drama Scholarships in the Sixth Form but candidates can apply for a fee paying place and/or one of the scholarship categories only. Those applying for a bursary will sit 2 academic papers in support of the application and therefore do not apply for one of the other scholarship categories as well.
