Keep them more separate from the others, or doing some of the training

Hold the PLC at the end of the weekly meeting; this would mean the PLs and APLs missing the last half hour, perhaps while the other Leaders or Explorers play a game or do some training with the non-PLs. The PLs would then be able properly to both plan the next week's meeting and assign tasks, and maintain accurate records of their Patrol's progress.

Have a PL training course to help them manage their Patrols, including special nights out from time to time

Problems

Badges are not awarded often enough because records are not kept well enough

Too much training sometimes, and it's repetitive

Not enough day-trip expeditions

Fires can take too long for a weekly meeting, and the groups are too large

Miss Hurribunce has stopped doing Scouts

Solutions

Do more badges at the meetings - specific activity badge courses

Keep better records

Don't do fires so much in termtime meetings but save it for camps when there's more time

Devise a "I got Miss Hurribunce Back In Scouts" badge

Catch up weeks for those who've missed things

Problems

Too many people just coming along when something else is cancelled or when it looks interesting

Solutions

Remove the sign-out sheet so you can't just sign-out without personally contacting someone

If you can't attend you must tell your PL before the end of school on Wednesday

If you are not there on a Thursday, and have not told your PL before the end of Wednesday, the absence will be unauthorised, and:

You will have to see CJL Friday morning break

If you have more than 1 unauthorised absence in the same term CJL will ring up your parents and discuss your commitment to Scouts

If you have more than 3 unauthorised absences in the same term you will be asked to leave Scouts

Just say on the programme what they need to wear / bring, not exactly what is going on, so they can't pick and choose

Give priority for hikes and camps to those who attend most frequently and are most proficient.

Problems

Sometimes Games overruns

Sometimes Scouts are late because they are slow in getting ready

Solutions

CJL to stress to Games staff the importance of punctuality at Scouts

Lates are recorded and if any Scout has 3 in a term CJL will ring home to discuss the problem

Problems

Sometimes Scouts turn up without it

The School Shop guesses sizes

The points system is unclear

The Leaders don't always wear uniform

Solutions

You can't attend Scouts if not dressed properly, which usually means a minimum uniform of Scout Shirt and Scarf. If you turn up without you will be sent home or to Homework Club

CJL to ask the School Shop to be more careful with sizes

Scrap the points scheme for uniform, and just expect everyone to wear it

Leaders should wear something - minimum of a Scarf

Sometimes Scouts are poorly behaved

Solutions

Leaders and PLs to be more proactive with poor behaviour.

Clear boundaries to be given

After 1 warning the Scout should be asked to sit out of the activity.

If this exclusion happens twice in a term CJL to contact the tutor or parents
