Argue, Persuade, Advise

This task requires that you use your rhetorical (persuasive) gifts in order to shape your readers' view of a topic.

The examiner wants to know if you can do the following things:

ARGUE:

Can you organise your opinions on a topic into a coherent argument using appropriate argumentative vocabulary?   Can you structure your writing in a way that helps the reader to better understand what you are trying to show?   Can you paragraph effectively so that major points are dealt with in sections of your essay and that the progression between paragraphs is clear?

PERSUADE:

Can you use the tricks/techniques that professional writers use to persuade their readers that their view of something is the correct one.   You should use rhetorical devices in your writing.   Being persuasive is more than just having the best argument, it's about having the most engaging writing that employs the most manipulative   techniques!

ADVISE:

Can you make recommendations to your readership?   Can you make suggestions for changes in their behaviour and can you do this in an appealing (not too aggressive, not too passive) fashion?
