Departmental Areas

The department consists of a number of different areas as shown below.

Design Room

The Design Room has recently been refurbished with a suite of PCs. We have six desktops and ten laptops. The room is used for design work and theory lessons. The ICT resource has enabled us to introduce a variety of design based software into the curriculum. We have photo editing programs, 3d modelling software, ergonomics databases and interactive learning CD-ROMs. Pupils are also able to connect to the school database, browse the internet and use all standard office applications.

Workshop

This is where most of the practical work in the department is carried out. machines include: Vacuum former, pillar drills, band saws, decasaws, circular and bob sanders, wood lathe, engineering lathe, CNC mill, CNC lathe, CNC Wizzard and metal work area including casting, braising and welding equipment. We also have a large range of hand tools for use with all types of materials. Various sized off-cuts are available from the coloured bins under the benches on the right-hand side of the workshop. You may help yourself to these.

Resources Room

All the materials, paints and power tools are kept here. it is also the technician's office. If you require any materials that you cannot find in the off-cut bins, you should see the technician or a teacher, or fill out a material request form.

Store Room

Project work is kept in here. Each student has their own plastic box to keep their creations in. They are sorted into year groups and classes. please keep this area tidy!
